Day 119 Kalgoorlie-Boulder, (Karlkurla Bushland Park), WA

Yesterday afternoon we went for a drive around Kalgoorlie-Boulder to get our bearings.  We drove through both shopping precincts and found a barber for Philip.  We then made our way to the Karlkurla Bushland Park that covers an area of 200 hectares.  There are walking and cycling paths throughout the parklands but we were content to walk to Katanga Lookout in the heart of the bushland.  It offers a 360 degree view of the area so it was well worth the walk and would be a fantastic spot at sunset.

After our short walk we then drove to the Super Pit Lookout.  OMG.......it is amazing and also a little terrifying.  We are mesmerised by the mammoth dump trucks at the very bottom of the pit that look the size of an ant but in reality a vehicle beside one of those trucks is dwarfed!  When we do the super pit tour on Thursday we will be on the other side of the fenced lookout so that is going to be exhilarating and terrifying. It was too late in the day to get a decent photo but you get the drift......

So today we found the Visitor Information Centre, another one manned with helpful staff, and have booked the tram ride on Wednesday.  Tomorrow we will visit the Museum of the Goldfields that we are told will take 2-3 hours.  After the museum we will lunch at the Palace Hotel where (ex US President) Herbert Hoover was a regular back in the day, so it will be a busy morning.  The last touristy thing we need to do before we leave Kalgoorlie-Boulder is the Questa Casa Bordello Tour that is Australia's oldest working brothel.  The tour is apparently set to surprise us.......

Kalgoorlie-Boulder has so much to offer and I fear that we will only just scratch the surface in our time here.  The weather though will play a dominant role in the next couple of day with winds of up to 90kmh predicted for this area this evening.  We are still debating whether to pull everything down or just hope 🤞🤞🤞that the BOM has it wrong for this area.

The entrance to our Caravan Park.
