Day 133, Swan Valley, Perth, WA

Hello from beautiful Swan Valley where we will be for the next few days.  It is a lovely area just outside Perth and it is home to many Wineries.  Right opposite our caravan park is the Pinelli Estate Winery with the famous and popular Maison Saint Honoré restaurant.  I hope that we have time to visit the Winery and Restaurant but ultimately our time spent here will be to catch up with friends and I'm certain they have plans mapped out.

We didn't leave Cervantes until well after 9am as it is only a 200 km journey for us to Swan Valley.  We just took our time meandering along the Indian Ocean Drive all the time marvelling at just how lovely the West Coast of Australia is.  The colour of that Ocean, even after months of looking at it, still keeps surprising us.  Today was so clear and sunny and we could quite easily make out the white caps of the waves breaking offshore near the reef.  There are many Lobster Boats on the ocean, bringing in their haul.  The lobster pots, with their colourful buoy markers,  are quite close to the shoreline so it makes them easy to pick out.

But the thing that really excited us today was the Sand Dunes.  They are massive and stretch for many kilometres.  Lancelin is a renowned place for Sand dunes and people travel up from Perth on a regular basis to have a play on the dunes either on Sand Boards or Buggies.  We drove into Lancelin and there is a pretty cool caravan park that would have been nice for a night or two.

Before we reached Lancelin we called into Wedge Island. That happened by mistake.  We thought we were heading to a lookout.  However there is not much here, just a whole bunch of fishing huts, some in better condition than others.  No power or water here, let along phone service and it is probably just the way the residents like it....

We did eventually find the lookout but after walking some distance along a pathway the view was underwhelming.  The lookout was just too far off the ocean to really appreciate it. The view in the first photo is looking towards Wedge Island and you can can pick out the Indian Ocean Drive in the second photo along with the pretty impressive sand dunes.

The drive through the outskirts of Perth and to our Caravan Park is super easy.  We just followed Highway 60 (Indian Ocean Drive) right to the outskirts of Perth and then turned onto Highway 2 and then one more turn onto Highway 3.  From here it was just two more streets to the G'Day Holiday Park. How simple is that!  We passed a couple of mammoth Bunnings Stores on our way and we do have to visit one of them this afternoon to purchase a small shelf to hold the Apple TV.  The one we have at present just will not stick to the wall.

Until tomorrow xx
