A Birthday to Remember

It was my husbands birthday recently and as a special treat I booked us into "Flames of the Forest" for a six course degustation menu comprising of Kangaroo, Crocodile, Prawns, Barramundi, Grass Fed Beef and to top it off,  Black Sapote Sticky Date Pudding. Champagne on arrival and matching wines are included in the price. "Flames" is right in the middle of the rainforest under a black silk canopy with huge crystal chandeliers and candles on every table. No carpet on the floor here, just the simple dirt floors.  At one stage through the night a little bandicoot ran between the tables much to the delight of the american tourists! The surrounding rainforest trees are lit by spotlight and it is an extraordinary beautiful setting. We were picked up by bus from Port Douglas (no self drive) at 7.15 pm and were returned to our car at 10.30pm.  The bus trip takes about ten minutes.  Flames of the Forest is an Aboriginal Cultural experience and we were entertained by a young man playing the Didgeridoo.  I love the hauntingly beautiful sound of this instrument.  It was a wonderfully romantic night that we will never forget.

Paradise Found

I live in one of the most beautiful places in the world - tropical north Queensland Australia.  It is my Paradise. Every morning I wake up and thank my lucky stars.  My husband and I moved here in 2006 and built the home of our dreams on 220 acres.  We operate a Droughtmaster Stud and take great pride in the way our cattle are allowed to roam on the lush pasture without an apparent care in the world.  This photo was taken looking to the north.  It takes in the Mossman Gorge and further north the Daintree National Park.
My interests are travel, cooking, photography, gardening and scrapbooking and I would dearly love more time to engage in each one of them.  But, we lead a busy life and I take it as it comes.  Over time I want to share with you a little bit of my Paradise.
