Day 204 Lucky Bay, WA

We had a very big storm pass over Lucky Bay last night with wind gusts up to 80kmh and heavy rain that seemed to come in sideways.  Philip woke in the middle of the night to the sound of dripping water and it didn't take us long to figure it out.  There was a small crack above one of the bedroom windows and because the rain was coming in at an angle it was sending the water through the tiny crack in the frame.  It didn't take us long to improvise a repair and the next day Philip was able to fill the tiny crack with glue so we shouldn't have any more trouble with it.  It is such a tiny crack - around 1 cm in length - and it may have been there for a very long time but we are confident of the repair.

Today was an improvement on the previous day so we decided to hike from Lucky Bay to Thistle Cove.   The information board said that it is an easy 4km walk but I took my walking pole - just in case.  Thank goodness I did.  It should have been classed moderate because it was not an easy walk for the last 500 metres when you had to scale a sheer granite rock.  I couldn't/wouldn't  do it but Philip did (of course he did!).  I was happy to sit at the base of the rock and wait for his return.

The walk up until then was lovely with lots of wildflowers and orchids for me to photograph and the views (you will be sick of me saying it) are incredibly lovely.  We stopped and talked to quite a few people along the walk as it is quite popular with the campers at Lucky Bay.  All of them were much younger than Philip and I.  The sensible grey nomads stuck to walking along the beach 😂😂😂.

The weather closed in again this afternoon so we didn't get to do a last Lucky Bay beach walk but we had walked it twice before so it wasn't so bad.  The beach is open to vehicles and there is a day use parking area so there are lots of people along the whole length of the five kilometre beach.  Some were braving the very cold water and it really did look inviting but not quite inviting enough for us!  I had to photograph one of the many kangaroos that inhabit Lucky Bay.  How many of you have seen those travel photos with kangaroos on the pristine beach and have wondered where the photo was taken.  Well, it was most probably here at Lucky Bay.  But those kangaroos can also be a problem in the camping area if you happen to leave rubbish lying around as a fellow camper can attest too!
