Day 198, Bremer Bay (Point Ann), WA

What is this weather!  Another beautiful day with not a cloud in the sky.  I could get very used to this but best not to, as the rest of the week looks abysmal.  We are lucky that the weather turned it on for us because it showed todays destination, Point Ann, to its very best advantage.

Point Ann is at the western end of Fitzgerald River National Park and around 70km from Bremer Bay.  The road is partly bitumen but the majority of it is a corrugated gravel road.  We can tell that it has been graded fairly recently but has seen a lot of traffic over it that causes the corrugations.  This particular national park is renowned for its biodiversity and rugged scenery and is blanketed with colour with hundreds of species of wildflowers in bloom, many of which I have not previously seen.

During winter the southern right whales shelter close to shore to give birth to their babies. We were hoping to catch a glimpse of some of these majestic  whales but today was not the day.  It is right at the end of the calving season so it was probably wishful thinking..

There is an easy walk from the carpark that is called the Point Ann Heritage Trail.  It is a 1.5km loop walk (I love loops!) with lots of information that delves into the rich pastoral history of the area.  The walk also follows a short section of the No. 2 rabbit proof fence.  The walk terminates with a whale watching platform overlooking Point Charles Bay.

The trail winds around the cliff face with the most stunning views.  The colours!  The crystal clear water! My goodness.....can it get any better!

After our walk we head down the stairs to the picnic area where we demolished the picnic lunch that we had brought with us.  The walk had given us an appetite so it went down a treat!  We sat at the picnic table for quite awhile, all the time looking out to the ocean to see if a whale might have made its way into the bay.
Back in the car and making our return journey to Bremer Bay we came across this very big king brown snake.  We presume it is a king brown but it could just as well have been a tiger snake.  We do not have much snake knowledge.....
We made it back to Bremer Bay around 2pm and decided to take one last look around this lovely place before we head off tomorrow.  There are a couple of lookouts with some pretty fantastic views and at one of the lookouts we meet a group of young girls who have been
picnicking on the waters edge.  They were very talkative and they told us to enjoy the weather today because it never usually gets this warm (27 degrees today).  One of the young girls lived on a property outside of Bremer Bay and she said that they can be experiencing temperatures of 40 degrees on their property and they will drive into Bremer Bay and it will be 20 degrees!  We are told that all of the southern coastline is just as magnificent as what we have seen today so I am very excited for the remainder of our trip.  We are booked into Lucky Bay next week that is near Esperance and EVERYBODY tells us that is the best beach in the whole of Australia!  Big call!
We went for quite a long walk along the coastline at Bremer Bay yesterday afternoon.  I tried to get a photo to show you the sand that is just so very white and is so fine and almost like powder.  So, here are a few photos of Bremer Bay from yesterday and again today.

And another GoPro....
