Day 189 Peaceful Bay (Denmark), WA

Today would definitely be a good day for touring as the weather is bleak with lots of passing showers.  In between those showers there is brief sunshine.....VERY brief.  A big shout out to our friends who gave us a list of things to do around Denmark, so using that list I made up an itinerary for today.

There are two scenic drives at Denmark.  One is Scottsdale Road and the other is Mount Shadforth Road.  For us, travelling to and from Peaceful Bay, it is a large loop that takes in the township of Denmark.  Along the way we would stop at The Cheese Factory, Harewood Wine Estate, Denmark and lastly the Leather Shop to buy Philip a pair of Ugg boots.

It is a beautiful scenic drive and we were lucky enough to have mostly sunshine on our drive.  However, when we made our first stop at the Cheese Factory, the skies opened up.  We were most certainly in the right place!  While I was choosing cheeses, sausages and salami, Philip ordered us Coffee, Tea and Lemon Tart and we sat over this until the rain cleared.  I was very pleased with our deli purchases.

Just a few kilometres away from the Cheese Factory is Harewood Estate Winery.  The cellar door is actually the home that our friend used to live in and I took a couple of photos for her benefit.  We were the only ones here for a wine tasting so we chatted to the owner over our wine tasting. She did not know our friend but it was probably before her time.  The wines are exceptional and we purchased a Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris.  The winery has won many well deserved awards and is recognised by James Halliday that is a big achievement in the wine world.

Back in the car and another kilometre along Scottsdale Road is the Haven Farm Stall where I was promised Avocado, Eggs and Herbs.  Unfortunately there was nothing available at the roadside stall.  I don't know whether they were sold out or just had nothing available.  It's a cute little stall though.....
From here it is another scenic few kilometres into Denmark where we stopped at IGA to purchase the few items that I thought I might be able to get at the Haven Farm Stall.  We didn't hang around in Denmark very long.  We originally thought we might have lunch here but our coffee and tart at the Cheese Factory had given us a full belly so we decided to wait and have Fish n Chips back in Peaceful Bay.

We headed back to Peaceful Bay via Mount Shadforth Road that is another scenic drive.  Just a few kilometres from Denmark, on our left hand side, is our friend Micheals previous home.  Wow.  It is spectacular and I now understand why he was sad to sell it.  Mind you it is a huge home and would have been a headache to maintain.  The home is on five acres with three large ponds that are filled with Marron.  Our journey continued along Mount Shadforth Road that eventually came back on to the highway.

Our last stop on way back to Peaceful Bay was at Jassi's Leather Shop to buy Philip a pair of Ugg boots.  He has been putting off buying them but they are the perfect thing to wear inside the van on a cold morning and he will most certainly need them when we head to Tasmania next year!  I also bought a pair of sheepskin gloves that will also be handy (excuse the pun) next year.

Back in Peaceful Bay we stopped to pick up the famous Fish N Chips for lunch.  The choices of fish were either Snapper or Blue Whaler.  We chose the Snapper.  Was it the best Fish n Chips ever?  Well the jury is still out.  The fish was only lightly battered so that was a big plus for me and the fish was fresh that is also another plus.  The price was a bit on the high side ($26 for one serve - below) but I think that is the way things are these days.  Gone are the days when fish n chips were a cheap meal.
