Day 162 Busselton, WA

Around 4am this morning there was a bright lightning strike followed by a gigantic clap of thunder.  I swear that lightning strike was right over our caravan!  Needless to say after that rude awakening I struggled to get back to sleep eventually dozing around 5.30 (last time I looked at the clock) and was woken again at 7.00am by the delicious smell of plunger coffee.  This is Philip's job.  He just cannot lie in bed so it stands to reason that he should be the coffee maker in our family.....

It has been a wet and windy miserable old day.

It's not the same as our rainy season in the tropics where it comes in off the ocean and stays.  The showers here come and go.  One minute you look outside and the sun is shining and within ten minutes it is raining again.  We did contemplate going for a drive today but just as we started towards the car it started raining again.  So instead we completed a yoga practice and then lazed around and made a few phonecalls.  However, come rain, hail or shine tomorrow we are heading to Augusta via Dunsborough and Yallingup.  We should get our fill of Lighthouses, Caves and Karri Forests and hopefully, fingers crossed, a few wildflowers to round out the day.  I also suggested to Philip that we try and do the very challenging Yallingup Maze but he didn't look very excited about that prospect....

We pulled out the maps today trying to decide on our route around the south west from here.  School holidays commence in Western Australia Friday next week so our thoughts are to head inland - perhaps Katanning - for the duration of the school holidays.  We leave Busselton on Saturday and with one week until school holidays commence we will book into a van park at Pemberton, home to some of the oldest karri forests.  Some of the trees in this area are believed to be over 80 metres tall and more than 300 years old.

So that has been our day in a nutshell.  I hope the sun is shining where you live and you are enjoying some warmer weather.
