Day 156 Karrinyup, Perth, WA

We set the alarm for 5.30 am this morning.  An ungodly hour for us but we had to have the car at the CV Joint Doctor by 7.30 am.  Why did we give ourselves two hours you might ask?  By the time we make Coffee, drink same Coffee and then Toilet and Shower an hour passes quickly and we wanted to be in the car by 7am as we weren't certain how long it would take to drive in peak hour traffic.  We arrived at 7.20am but the workshop was already open so we were able to leave the car there and head to a nearby Coffee Shop for breakfast.

The coffee shop was run by two Malaysian cousins and they were just so friendly and we stood and chatted to them while they got our order ready (Toasted Ham & Cheese).  We actually got the whole family history πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚, but it was interesting.  When our order was ready the toasted sandwiches came to us in the standard white paper bag but before they were handed to us a scoop of fries were added to the bag!  I've never had that happen, ever.....

After we ate our sandwiches and fries we called an Uber to take us back to the caravan park.  It took exactly six minutes for the driver to arrive.  We love Uber.  The app is easy to use and the fact that you pay upfront is such a relief when you get caught in peak hour traffic. We have probably all been caught in a taxi with the meter ticking over!  Philip and I have had long discussions about Uber versus Cab.  Yes we feel for the cab drivers that forked out a small fortune to purchase licenses for their taxi but they had it very good for a very long time.  They were expensive and at the end of the day I think they shot themselves in the foot by charging the big fares.  Competition is inevitable for any business and it is good for the paying public to have that competition.  OK. I will now get down from the soapbox.......

Our Uber dropped us off at the reception area of the Caravan Park and it is a good 500 metre walk from there to our caravan site.  It is a very big caravan park.  When we came around the corner at the lake, what should be crossing the road but our Swan Family....Mum, Dad and four babies.  It was just the cutest thing to see them.  The Gander was still looking very threatening though so we stayed well back from the family.

We were back to the caravan by 9.00 am and as the sun was shining (finally) we took ourselves for a lovely long walk around the adjacent parklands.  It felt so good to walk and by the time we got back to the van we received a phone call to say that the car was ready to go!  Another Uber trip to pick up the car.  Honestly, Uber must love us!  Philip went by himself this time as I wanted to cook lunch today.

My beautiful friend Mikki gave me a packet of this fantastic rice that she purchases by the carton and I intend doing the same thing when we get home.  You can only order by email as this is a local Perth lady who only sells from home and at the local market.

The rice seasoning is perfect and you can add whatever you like to the rice to make it a whole meal.  Today I added leftover roast chicken, handful of baby spinach, a few cherry tomatoes halved, diced carrot, edamame, onion, capsicum and cooked egg.  It was delicious and there is enough leftover for lunch tomorrow when we are back on the road.

So this is finally our last day and night in Perth.  We have now been here 24 days.  It's actually worked out very well for us as it will be much warmer in the south now that Spring has sprung.  Tomorrow we will be heading to Busselton via the caravan repair place where they will hopefully replace the Thermocouple in my hotplate.  If they don't have time we will take the part with us and see if we can find someone in Busselton to do the job.  We are both excited to be back on the road again.
