Day 8 Sailing the North Atlantic Sea

A very welcome day at sea today.  Our butler brought us coffee at 6am and we were both wide awake when he arrived.  Sunrise was around 5am and even though we had drawn the curtains, the light seemed to sneak its way it.  After coffee we headed to the fitness centre.  I would not normally go there for my walk but it was a very foggy morning so it would not have been fun walking on the outside track.  Philip spent his time on the exercise bike in readiness for his bike ride tomorrow in Portland.  I was reasonably happy to walk on the treadmill, but I do find them very boring.  (Note to myself to pick up some cheap headphones somewhere so I can at least listen to my iPhone playlist).  I was pleased to see a sign that said to restrict use of the machines to 30 minutes :-)

Breakfast was dine-in this morning and it was the first breakfast, since we left Cairns, where I actually felt hungry enough to enjoy it.  It's amazing what a bit of exercise can do.

After breakfast we headed to the theatre to listen to a talk about what we can expect in Maine.  I normally enjoy these talks but the speaker had the most boring voice I have ever experienced and almost put us both to sleep.  She was young so hopefully she will improve with age…..

After the talk we headed to one of the lounges for a meet and greet for everyone doing the full Grand Arctic Cruise.  We were greeted by the Captain and senior crew members as we entered the room.  They were formed into a long presentation line on both sides of us and I'm certain they won't remember us and we won't remember them :-) We did meet a lovely couple - Keith and Judy (won't forget that name) - who we will meet for dinner tonight in the main dining room.  It is formal night so will have to frock up - not something I love, but I have just been browsing the menu and there are lots of Lobster choices.  Anyone who knows me well, knows that I love lobster!

To sign off for today I will just add some photos of the ship leaving New York yesterday evening.
