Day 6 New York

Our flight into Newark, New Jersey from Las Vegas was uneventful and our driver was ready and waiting as we exited the terminal.  Thank goodness we chose this as a cab would have cost a small fortune.  The trip took more than an hour as the traffic was very heavy as we drove towards Manhattan.

We arrived too late for the Regent meet and greet but all the information we needed for tomorrow's transfer to the ship was handed to us as we checked into the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.  This pre-cruise overnight stay is included with our cruise and it was a very unexpected surprise for us to find that the hotel was situated right on Central Park.  Our room was huge and obviously newly renovated to a luxury standard with a separate bedroom and ensuite, large lounge dining area and another toilet just inside the entry.  The toilet was even a surprise as you opened the toilet door the toilet lid opened and then closed again as you exited.  I've never seen anything like it!

But let's talk about the views……….

This morning after a buffet breakfast we were transferred by bus to our waiting ship, Regent Mariner.  We have sailed on her before but at first glance, she really needs a refurbishment.  She's looking very tired.  We heard from a fellow guest that she is going in for refurbishment straight after this cruise.  Damn.  Just our luck……

We are now settled into our suite that is right at the back of the ship that will make a nice change from the front of the ship.  The itinerary has changed quite a few times since we booked this cruise two years ago and tonight we are still docked in New York. It seems weird to not have a sail-away party as we leave the port however we will look forward to a tour tomorrow - Manhattan Highlights - before departing tomorrow evening.  This evening we watched the sun set across the Hudson River and it was truly beautiful.
