Day 15 and 16 - Cruising the North Atlantic Sea

Around midday on day 15 the ocean swell started to increase in size to around 7 metres.  That weather continued for around 24 hours.  It was definitely not fun trying to sleep in our bed.  The ship rolled from side to side, and you were left wondering, at times, whether the ship would right itself or just roll over.  (I should never have watched the movie Poseidon!)

I was feeling quite unwell and this was my food for the day…….

Green apples soothe the belly along with ginger. It is something I learned on a previous cruise.
Day 16 was a much calmer day for sailing…….thank goodness, as we had a few things we wanted to see and do.
The captain came over the air mid morning to announce that during the previous night a "freak" wave had blown out a window on Deck 5 causing flooding in the mid-ship area. There was a disruption to online services and a couple of the lifts were left inoperable.  However, by midday, everything was restored and even the carpets had been dried.  The maintenance team onboard are amazing.

First up today was another lecture by Judge Bishay.  This time we were challenged into exploring a murder scenario.  The wife claimed it was suicide but was it suicide or murder?  The facts, as they unfolded, were interesting. We are loving these lectures.

Lunch followed the lecture and we tried to keep it healthy.  This was poached chicken with wasabi Mayo on an asian salad. Very delicious.

After lunch it was off to Bingo!  We didn't win any jackpots but it was fun.  They only have bingo on days at sea so there was quite a crowd.  It costs $20 (US) to play five games and all the money from the sales gets divvied up and paid back as jackpots.

This evening all guests that are doing the whole 83 day cruise, I believe 70 of us, were invited to a meal in the French restaurant - Chartreuse.  The four course meal was specially designed for the evening and we started off with Baby Beets on Goats Cheese.  Our friends, from Miami, commented that they had never seen Golden Beets that are readily available in Australia!

followed by Ravioli…..

then Duck Breast with Potato Pavé. I have attempted to make Potato Pavé, that is very thin slices of potato, mixed with cream, and then layered into a pan before baking.  Once cooked it is weighted down before placing in the fridge overnight.  Next day it is cut into thick slices and gently fried in herb butter so that all sides are browned.  You have to be so careful to not let it fall apart!
The first time I made it for Philip and I, it worked a treat.  The next time I made it for eight and it fell apart!  It's a tricky dish.

As the finale, to a well thought out meal, was Pannacotta…...

To sign off, here is a photo of our first sighting of an Iceberg.  It was 8kms away and apparently quite large.  From our balcony it was just a speck in the ocean.
