Day 43 Kununurra, Western Australia

We had a terrible nights sleep last night.  We had to shift our clocks back another hour and a half when we crossed the Western Australia border and it has really felt like jet lag.  The sun set at 5.05 pm and we were looking for bed at 6.00 pm!  We made ourselves stay awake until 8.30pm (that is really 10.30pm on the East Coast).  Do you get my drift?  We are so out of whack!

So we woke quite early (after all that sleep 😩), and after a quick cup of coffee we set off on a walk along the river pathway.  It is just under 3km each way and a flat path with lots of shade so it was the perfect morning walk.  We passed the Pump Station and were amazed at the large flow of water into the irrigation channel. There are so many questions we want and need to ask about this area so hopefully we will get a chance on the tours we are taking.

Speaking of tours, we decided on a full day tour that takes us on a flight to the Bungle Bungles where we alight from our plane and take a 3km hike into the bungles and the other full day tour is to Lake Argyle with a stop at the old Durack Homestead museum and also includes a tour of the Ord River Hydro scheme.

This afternoon we drove the short distance to the Kelly's Knob Lookout for a few sunset photos.  Unfortunately yet another fire was started just as we arrived so that put a spanner in the works for photos.  I did get some GoPro footage though.  There is a steeper and longer walk to a lookout at the top of Kelly's Knob that we will probably do another day when there are no fires burning.

We took a bit of a drive around town this morning to buy some fresh fruit.  I thought it would be plentiful in this area but sadly Coles didn't have much to offer.  I will try the IGA next time to see if they have any local produce.  The town of Kununurra, from what we have seen so far, is quite lovely with lots of greenery and wide streets.  The locals are friendly and nothing is too much trouble.  We have been warned that there is a bit of thieving problem but we have come to expect that everywhere these days.  Discovery Parks Caravan Park is a little way out of town so that probably works in our favour.
