Mildura, Victoria - Stefano's

By mistake I booked us into the caravan park at Mildura for four nights rather than three.  As it turns out we need every bit of those four nights.  There is so much to see and do in the Sunraysia area of Victoria.  We try very hard to do I sightseeing in the morning and keep the afternoon free for relaxation, or in my case, to upload my many photos and occasionally write on this blog.

When we were here in Mildura more than 20 years ago we tried to get reservations at Stefano's Restaurant here in Mildura and it was booked out for months in advance.  Fast forward to our first night here in Mildura and it was great to finally have a reservation at this iconic restaurant.

The restaurant itself is inside the Grand Hotel and you walk down a narrow staircase to what I think might have been the wine cellar in years past.  It is very cute and cosy.  The menu is waiting on the table for our arrival and is different each and every day.  Chef Stefano builds his menu around the produce he can source on a particular day.

Tonights five course menu is Mallee Lamb Bread Soup, Spinach mini soufflé with onion cream, pasta with peas, asparagus & cream, Beef cheeks on polenta & gremolata and finally two desserts - Phyllo Pastry, Pear & Orange Cream and Buttermilk Pannacotta.  But first up the chef has sent to our table an amuse-bouche that is a bit size morsel that is chef's choice and free to patrons.  Tonight was a liver paté with fresh from the oven sourdough. I will let the photos tell the story........

So what was our favourite course?  For me it was the Lamb Bread Soup and for Philip it was the Soufflé, but honestly, every single morsel of every single course was melt in the mouth delicious.  We were very happy patrons and to make it even more special, Chef Stefano comes and talks to his patrons at every single table in the restaurant.  It is a wonderful gesture that is much appreciated by his happy customers.
