Day 217 Cowell, SA

It was another easy driving day from Port Lincoln to Cowell that is around about the halfway mark between Port Lincoln and Port Augusta.  Cowell is situated on the Franklin Harbour and has a population of just over 1000 residents.  It is a very old town, established in 1880 with some charming old architecture along the wide, pine tree lined, Main Street. I can't wait to explore this a little more tomorrow.

As we drove north along the Eyre Peninsular today we both noticed the change in climate.  It was certainly a lot drier as we could see by the vegetation on the side of the road and most definitely warmer. We see a few paddocks of grain but it seems to be fewer as we drive north.  But arriving into Cowell there are once again the large silos that dominate the skyline in every town we have passed through in the past week or so, so there is crops grown in this area. Perhaps as we move further north we will once again come into cropping country.

Our arrival at the caravan park was bang on midday so once we had unhooked the van and been through all the setting up procedures (we are dab hands at this after many months on the road!)  I cooked us up a meat and three vege (steak, mushroom, potato, beans) meal.  After all that seafood we have enjoyed we are now craving a bit of beef!  This has to be the easiest one pot meal I have ever cooked for maximum flavour.  The addition of a packet of French Onion Soup is the secret ingredient.

I had a nanny nap after lunch as the time change is still throwing my body into chaos.  I was wide awake at midnight last night after sleeping for a whole two hours.  Philip had spotted a jetty as we drove into town (of course he did) so we, of course, walked the length of it this afternoon.  Actually it was quite a long jetty as far as jetty's go and we ended up walking for nearly an hour.  Our walk included a mangrove boardwalk.  To reach the jetty we walk past the brand new marina.  It looks like it is almost finished and there is a new building overlooking the marina that we think has the potential as a restaurant.  This little town is pumping!

I am hoping that after the walk I will be extremely tired tonight and sleep the whole night. It would make for a nice change 😳.....
