Our captain made the call early this morning to bypass the port of Belfast. The weather had deteriorated overnight with winds in excess of 70kmh which made docking at Belfast impossible. The captain does not make these choices lightly as logistically these changes are a nightmare. In fact the Regent land package tour to Edinburgh Tattoo (three days off the ship) that we were considering, had to be cancelled as the flights to Edinburgh were out of Belfast.
Presently our ship is cruising up and down the Irish Sea to fill in time before our next port of call tomorrow to the Isle of Man. The captain has warned us that this port might not happen either if the winds do not die down, as predicted. As we are anchored here, if the swell is still significant, boarding the tenders would be too dangerous.
I give full credit to the cruise team who have to scramble to come up with ideas for an unplanned day at sea. Within hours a revised activities brochure had been delivered to our suite for us to plan our day. First was a talk about the Lewis Chessmen (had never heard of them) chess pieces that were discovered in Scotland. It was actually very interesting and quite the mystery.
Next was Jackpot Bingo that is always a bit of fun followed by lunch. It seems like we go from meal to meal onboard the ship but we did skip breakfast this morning after a delicious meal in Compass Rose last night. A couple of photos to make your mouth water. I had the Braised Veal and Philip chose the Duck Breast.
