There are some things that you will remember for a lifetime and today was that. Hubbard Glacier. What can I tell you about it. It is the largest tidewater glacier in North America that is 76 miles long and plunges 1200 feet into the depths of the bay. Its immense beauty and phenomenal blue hues have to be seen to be believed. As our ship drew closer, and that was still 2 miles from the glacier, its height became more apparent. It soars a whopping 40 stories high and it often expels icebergs the size of a 10 storey building.
We enter at Disenchantment Bay and stop at Point Latouche where some of the guests disembarked onto a smaller boat for the Hubbard Glacier Wilderness Explorer Tour. It was an expensive tour that we declined but now I wish we had taken. It would have great to get up very close to Hubbard Glacier.
Our suite was prime position today so we hardly left it, even ordering in room service lunch. It is still cold but we rugged up accordingly. However the sun is shining again so if you can get in a sunny position it can be very pleasant. I did take a walk around the top deck for a little while and got a few photos of some of the crew enjoying the glacier.
Alaska has been amazing so far and we still have two more ports before we cruise the Inside Passage on our last day. Tomorrow we have an early start as we are doing a Dog Sled ride.
