Day 143 Karrinyup, (Le Rebelle Restaurant), Perth, WA

Thank you everybody for all the birthday love.  💕 It has been a lovely day with a very long walk this morning followed by brunch at one of the little cafes on Scarborough Beach.  Today has been glorious with hardly a cloud in the sky and the wind has dropped dramatically.  The perfect day really.

We walked around seven kilometres both south and north of Scarborough Beach along a path that is shared with both cyclists and pedestrians.  I like the signs along the walk that say "Cyclists Give Way to Pedestrians" and another sign that says "Fast Cyclists Please Use Road". This should be the case right across Australia but unfortunately in Queensland the signs along the paths that I walk at Palm Cove simply say "Shared Path".  As a pedestrian you do not always hear a cyclist coming from behind and if you happen to step into the path of a cyclist the pedestrian will undoubtably come out worse for wear.  I have had so many near misses both with cyclists and scooters over the years.

Back to my day.  Brunch was lovely and I chose the Smashed Avo with fried egg and Bacon.  Unfortunately the egg was barely cooked and I really do not like it when the white part of the egg is like "jelly".  However, I was hungry so I ate it.  I had serious food envy though when I looked at Philips dish of Scrambled Eggs, Chorizo, Bacon and Baby Spinach on Sourdough.

We were home again by 11am and after catching up on some bookwork and a rest it was time to prep ourselves for our dinner date at Le Rebelle Restaurant.  Our reservation is for 5.00 pm and as the restaurant is in the city we needed to give ourselves plenty of time to find a park close to the restaurant. (We ended up using Uber)  It is an early dinner but that gives us lots of time to digest our meal before bed.

8.00pm

WOW, WOW, WOW.  Dinner at LeRebelle was everything you would expect from a restaurant that is one of the top restaurants in the country.  We decided on the Degustation Menu that saw six dishes brought to our table over the course of the evening.  Every single dish was beautifully presented and full of flavour.

We started with the Duck Paté with homemade bread and a little Cumberland Jam and a plate of Jamon on the side.  The only downside, there was still a little Paté left and if I wasn't in a five star restaurant I would have wiped the bowl clean with my finger!
Next course was the restaurant's best know dish, the Crab Toast.  For such a simple name the dish had such incredible depth of flavour. The homemade, slightly sweet but heavily buttered Brioché was the perfect carrier of the rich crab topping.  The crab mix had flavours of dill and mint and the slight crunch of sea salt as you bit into the toast just made the whole mouthful unforgettable.
Le Rebelle is famous for it's homemade cheeses (Fromage) and our next course was straccciatella topped with fried garlic, baby mushrooms and roast Jeresuleum Artichoke.  There was also a hint of thyme and this was a dish that was absolutely faultless and just left you wanting more....
Our last Entreé was the cured Kingfish with pickled baby cucumber and oyster cream.  If anybody had told me twenty years ago that I would enjoy eating raw fish I would have laughed in their face.  Who would have thought that I now enjoy it so much and if it is on a menu I am excited.  This dish was superb and it was a very clever dish to have the crunch of the cucumber accompany the freshest of fresh Kingfish.

Main course was Fillet Steak, cooked medium rare and served with silverbeet, béarnaise sauce and a side of Frites (fries).  When the share dish was placed in front of us I thought we would never be able to eat it all but as you can see we did a pretty fine job of devouring it.....

Last but in no means least, came our dessert of Salted Peanut and Chocolate Tart with Mascarpone.  It tasted just like a snickers bar but ten times richer.  OMG.  It was so rich but also the perfect end to our very memorable meal.
