Day 138 Karrinyup, (Scarborough Beach), Perth, WA

For Philip and I our story really began right here in Perth and most particularly Scarborough Beach where Philip was living.  Although we met in my home town of Warwick it wasn't until I flew to Perth for Christmas in 1976 that we fell in love, and what a wonderful journey it has been.

Driving around Scarborough Beach today and then walking for many kilometres along the beach pathway really was a walk down memory lane.  Of course many things have changed, after all it was close to half a century ago, but the overall scenery is the one Philip and I remember most vividly.  Philip played for North Beach Rugby League Club while he was living in Perth and he told me lots of stories as we walked along the beach, about the places that he had eaten at, played at and maybe got a little drunk at....

The Scarborough Beach Hotel was his main drinking hole and it was literally just around the corner from where he lived.  The hotel was demolished in the 1980's and many were pleased to see its demise.  It was a bit of a dive towards the end of its lifespan and became a bikies hangout.  It has been replaced with high-rise (of course) and is now one of "the" places to live, in fact the whole area is a well sought after area.

If I had to chose a capital city in Australia to live in it would be Perth.  I have fallen in love with it all over again.  It really is a beautiful city with lots of park areas and tree lined streets.  It is relatively easy to drive around once you get your bearings. We drove from Scarborough Beach to Hillarys Boat Harbour along the West Coast Drive that is a lovely scenic "tourist" drive and found where the Rottnest Ferry departs, so we have planned to do that tomorrow.

The weather has really turned it on for us today with a balmy 20 degrees outside  and even though it was cloudy earlier today the sun is now shining very brightly with hardly a cloud in the sky.  The BOM is predicting similar weather for the next few days. Hallelujah!

I made us a Sticky Honey Prawn Noodle Salad for lunch today.  We had bought some large green prawns in Carnarvon that have been sitting patiently in the freezer waiting to be used and this is one of our favourite salads. HERE is the link to the recipe.  It is simple to make and don't be afraid to swap out some ingredients, for example Edamame can be swapped with peas and Chinese cabbage can be swapped for green.  I used green prawns but the recipe uses cooked. Do give it a go though as it is an easy peasy recipe that is both delicious and healthy.
