Day 47 Whistler, Canada

We left the Sun Peaks Grand Hotel right on time at 9.30 this morning.  There is always the same couple however, who always rush to the bus to make it on time!  Our journey has taken us in a large figure eight through the Canadian Rockies and today we once again arrived into the city of Kamloops where we disembarked the Rocky Mountaineer about a week ago.  What an amazing journey it has been so far!

The drive from Sun Peaks to Whistler takes us through some awesome mountain ranges that have us hanging on and not wanting to look to the valley below that is hundreds of metres down.  Our bus driver Norm does a tremendous job of negotiating the hairpin bends and switch-back corners.  But then again he does it time and time again and probably knows every inch of the road like the back of his hand.

Our schedule is a little tight today as we have to reach Whistler in order for some of the other guests to embark on a float plane tour as there were too many booked for the following day.  So the only stops we made were at the "log jam" and lunch break.  The log jam was actually quite incredible as landslides bring the timber down the sides of the mountain and into the river below causing a jam.  It will eventually break up but it makes for a pretty good photo.

Our friends Geoff and Diana that we met on the cruise

We pass by a lake where the scientists have found coral growing.  As you know coral does not grow in fresh water so this is quite the phenomenon.  This is not a great photo, taken from a speeding bus, but you can clearly see the white coral growing in the water......

It has been another day with a lot of sitting on the bus and we were pleased to finally arrive into Whistler around 3pm.  How great is it to be welcomed by the staff at the Whistler Westin with a welcoming glass of punch!  No doubt about it APT guests travel in style.  We will explore Whistler a little more tomorrow morning when we have free time to wander around the village.  The sun is once again shining brightly and it looks like it will stay that way for the foreseeable future.
