Day 42 Kununurra, Western Australia

Six weeks on the road and we have made it into Western Australia!!  Whoopee!!

It wasn't the start to the day that we would have liked.  As we were doing the final check before we left Victoria River Roadhouse we noticed that the refrigerator wasn't switching to 12 volt as it should while we are hooked up to the car.  We suspected something like this might happen as the power we were on at Victoria River Roadhouse was generator supplied and twice in the evening the power cut out abruptly once and slowly the second time.  That is not good for electrical appliances.  We checked everything we could think of to get the fridge going again but in the end we transferred all the food from the fridge into our trusty Engel.  We left everything in the freezer because we figured it would be okay until we could have the fridge checked in Kununarra.

We didn't have phone service at Victoria River but once we reached Timber Creek we had full service.  We rang Thetford and the technician we spoke to said that she thought it was a blown PC Board.  ***sigh*** The good news was, however, that there was a registered Thetford repairer in Kununarra.  She was able to give me their phone number and we rang them straight away and yes they could look at it as soon as we arrived in Kununurra.  That was a big relief. The long and short of it was that it was a blown PC board and the repairer had a replacement in stock so was able to fit it straight away......all under warranty.  Apparently it is a common fault with Thetford fridges!

While we were waiting for them to fix the fridge, we walked down to the lake. Philip took this photo.  I am looking very contemplative.

Todays drive was awesome.  The East Kimberleys are ruggedly beautiful with the towering mountains of red stone escarpments on both sides of us that have you straining your neck looking from side to side.  Then you come across mountains made of boulders.  Some are sitting so precariously and you can see that many have fallen.

Some of the mountains are flat at the top, like tabletops, and the vertical lines of rock running around the mountains almost look like train lines. We have started to see more and more Boab trees and some of them are massive.  They are just so strange looking with there big bulbous girth.  There are also a lot of the native Bauhinia Trees that we are very familiar with as they grew around the Julia Creek area.  The grazing country looks excellent in a lot of places particularly around the well known Bulloo Downs Station.

We are now ensconced at Discovery Parks Lakeside Park at Kununurra.  It is a very large park and Philip has already checked out the park.  We have also picked up a handful of brochures so we will decide tonight which tours to book.  I know that a tour of Lake Argyle will be on the list as well as a flight to the Bungle Bungles. We will drive over to Wydham and also visit a property on the Ord that a friend of a friend owns. Maybe I could fit in a trip to Kimberly Diamonds to drool over some Pink Diamonds. 😉

We are here for seven nights and I don't think that will be enough!
