Klang Heritage and Home Visit

We woke at about 6.30am this morning.  It is hard to get into a deep sleep the first night or two on board a cruise ship as it rolls and shudders quite a bit and as this is a much smaller ship than we have sailed on before I think it is more pronounced.  Having said that the bed is very comfortable.
We decided to skip breakfast and have an early lunch as our tour began at 12.35pm.  We lunched in La Veranda where they had a delicious buffet set out for guests.  Today's special was Roast Turkey that suited me very well as I love turkey.

We started with king prawns that were peeled and de-veined and served on a bed of lettuce with chilli sauce. Next was the turkey with vegetables and dessert was a flourless chocolate cake with vanilla bean custard.  After lunch we returned briefly to our cabin to grab our backpacks and camera before boarding our tour bus.
Our tour guide was called Mimi and she was a bundle of laughs.  When the drive became a bit boring she would break out into a song and boy she certainly had a great voice! We passed through many towns that were not unlike many others we have been to throughout Asia.  Always, the predominant shops are motorbike and motorbike repair shops!

Our driver took us to a Malay house where we were served a variety of traditional Malay snacks including banana chips (salty), potato samosas, tapioca bites and banana fritters.  All this was washed down with a very decent cup of tea. We wandered around the garden that was filled with tropical plants including orchids.  I have a friend who would have been in orchid heaven!

We then drove to little India.  I watched a young girl doing a henna tattoo and was entranced by the colourful outfits that Indian women wore.  I am determined to buy a sari this trip but where would I wear it in Port Douglas 😌
The stores were full of clothing, food, electronics and spices.  In fact everything you could wish for.  We enjoyed walking around here because we were not assailed by the vendors!

Next stop was the Royal Gallery and then onto the Royal Palace for a photo shoot. The whole tour was five hours and quite educational thanks to our knowledgeable tour guide, Mimi.

When we were back on board we sat at the pool bar and had Navigator Cocktails, that are a sweet version of Gin and tonic, and munched on some some bar snacks.  We decided to forego dinner as our bellies were well and truly full of food.
We have had our showers and looking forward to retiring early.  The ship is now heading north to Penang, Malaysia and should dock at 9am.  Our tour in Penang begins at 9.35am so no sleeping in for us tomorrow!
xx
