Huon Valley, Tasmania

We certainly kept the best until last with todays drive.  For the first part we follow the Huon River on the western side of the peninsular passing through the tiny townships of Cradoc, Glaziers Bay, Petcheys Bay and Lymington.  The sun is shining again so the reflections on the river are a photographers dream.  Along this stretch of the river are the Tassal Salmon Ponds and we watch the "feeder" ship making its way back along the river after delivering the salmon food.  There is a small lavender farm along this road and I am pleased to see the numerous flowers.  We will probably see more of the lavender farms as we start heading north tomorrow.

At Cygnet we stopped for a coffee/tea break at The Port Hole Cafe and our choices of cake/cheesecake, coffee (Philip) and Tasmanian Breakfast Tea (in a proper Teapot!) for me were without a doubt the best we have had at any coffee shop.

As I mentioned once before, Cygnet is home to people choosing an alternative lifestyle.  I have never seen so many dreadlocks in all my life.  I was taking photos around the bay at Cygnet and a Ladyboy passed me by.  It is quite a common sight in Cygnet.
At the Cygnet Yacht Club we watched a gentleman "sailing" his model yacht around an obstacle course.  There are lots of yachts around the clubhouse so we guess it is a very strong sport in these parts and the calm waters certainly lends itself to the sport.

It started to rain for the second half of our journey around the peninsular so we made a decision to head home early and we were just in time to get the clothes off the line before it started to rain at our caravan park.  Tomorrow we drive to the historical town of Ross.  We are only here for two nights but that should give us enough time to look around this lovely town.  On our last trip here in 2011 we spent some time in Ross so it will be like walking down memory lane.

I can't begin to tell you how much we have enjoyed the Huon Valley and in particular the Huonville Caravan Park.  It is such a lovely area and a week was certainly not long enough to explore this area.  You would need at least a month, if not more.  There has been a lot of driving in the past week and I think Philip is a bit tired from all the concentrating.  I think at Swansea we will be looking for a bit of down time and I can't think of a better place.
