Day 14 Adels Grove, Lawn Hills NP

It is remiss of me not telling you about how Adels Grove came about.  It is a rather interesting story that you can read about here.  HISTORY OF ADELS GROVE (click on the link)

It was a winding down kind of day for all of us today. It is our last day at Adels Grove and the last day as a group of friends.  Tomorrow we are heading different directions with our friends heading south to Mt Isa and we are heading west to Hells Gate Roadhouse before crossing the Northern Territory border at Woolagorang.

I spent the morning washing all our bedding, towels and clothes and then caught up on a little bookwork. After that we all gathered together under the shady trees in our campsite to have a couple of games of SkipBo.  It's a fun easy card game for all ages and very easy to learn.  After that the others went for a swim while I sat down with my book of crosswords. It really was a relaxing day.

We decided to cook up Corned Beef fritters for lunch.  I have only ever added onion and sometimes tomato to my fritter mix but Kate's suggestion of adding a couple of handfuls of frozen mixed vegetables to the mix makes the fritter more of a meal and something I will continue to do.  Of course they were accompanied by the obligatory tomato sauce!

After lunch we all started pulling apart our camps and storing what we could in readiness for our early departure tomorrow morning.  Our journey tomorrow is less than 200 kms but the rest of the crew have a big day in front of them.  It is all the more difficult knowing that we once again have to tackle the 90km of horrendous road between here and Gregory before we head different directions.

Late in the afternoon we went for a swim to cool down and we all reminisced about our five days here at Adels Grove.  Would we come back?   Probably not unless they laid bitumen between here and Gregory and we all know that won't happen any time soon.  But having said that we all agreed that it is a beautiful spot to visit and we have no regrets about making this journey. Would you come here if you were a family? The waterhole that we swim in is around 5 metres deep and you have to descend steps to reach the waters edge so from a practical point of view this is not a great swimming hole for young children.  The same could be said for the gorge.  It is very deep and you have to descend it via steps also. But if you were an adventurous family you would love it.

We sat around the camp today identifying the birds that we spotted.  There are so many different species of birds here.  It is the perfect environment for them with lots of trees for nest building and roosting.  Twitchers would love this place. There are also kangaroos that come to our camp each night, edging closer and closer to us until one of us moves and they hop away. I'm always very cautious around roos' as I have seen first hand how hard they can bite you. I think perhaps people have started to feed these roos' and that is a big mistake in my opinion.  These wild animals should be admired from a distance and allowed to feed naturally.

It really has been a lovely time to have time with our friends before continuing on our journey.  We won't be seeing each other for quite awhile and we should all have some amazing stories to tell when we see each other again.
