Dubai, UAE

We docked at Dubai this morning at 6.00am.  The dock is almost 4 km from the business centre so we chose, again, the Hop-On Hop-Off Bus that leaves from the dock.  As we made our way into the city centre we passed the QE2 Cruise Ship that is now owned by the Emirate of Dubai and operates as a floating hotel.  Dubai’s skyline is dominated by the world’s tallest building the Burj Khalifa that is a staggering 828m high.  There is another building under construction at present that will be taller than this but the government is not releasing the height until they are certain that it will have the title of the worlds tallest!  Tallest, richest, smartest, fastest.......
Our tour began at the Dubai Mall, the second largest shopping mall in The World with well over 1,000 shops.  We did not go inside.  Too much temptation, plus I dislike shopping....
The bus then wound it’s way through the city centre and then on to the older section of Dubai.  We drove along Dubai Creek where Dubai was originally settled and then back around to the city centre ending our tour once again at Dubai Mall.
We would have chosen a different tour that took us outside the city confines but for some reason our choices were limited as we had forgotten to chose our Dubai tour before we left home. Nonetheless, the bus affords a good oversight of the city and our Philippine tour guide was excellent.
Tomorrow we visit the Emirate of Fujairah in the UAE, where Philip is doing a sand dune drive and I am sticking to a more sedate city tour.
